What is Dune?
Dune, formerly known as Dune Analytics, is a blockchain analytics platform that enables users to query, visualize, and analyze on-chain data from various blockchains such as Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, Solana, and more. Founded by Fredrik Haga and Mats Olsen in 2018, Dune aims to make blockchain data accessible and understandable for everyone by providing tools to create custom dashboards and queries.
Dune operates as a community-driven platform where users, known as “wizards,” can create and share data analysis dashboards. These dashboards provide insights into blockchain transactions, smart contract interactions, DeFi projects, and NFT markets, among other things. The platform supports SQL-based queries, allowing users to extract and visualize data through graphs, charts, and other interactive formats. This open data model makes Dune akin to GitHub for blockchain data, where analyses can be reused and customized by others.
The platform offers both free and premium services. While most features are free, the Dune Pro subscription allows users to skip query queues, run parallel queries, keep dashboards private, and export data to CSV files. Dune also supports a bounty program to incentivize the creation of specific dashboards, enhancing the platform's utility and community engagement.
Dune is particularly valuable for traders, analysts, and developers looking to gain insights into blockchain data for making informed decisions. It also fosters collaboration within its community, allowing users to share knowledge and improve their data querying skills through documentation and tutorials provided by Dune.
