What is Babylon?
Babylon is a groundbreaking decentralized protocol that brings native staking to Bitcoin, allowing BTC holders to lock their coins on-chain without wrapping, bridging, or intermediaries. It introduces the concept of Bitcoin Supercharged Networks (BSNs)—PoS blockchains that leverage staked BTC for economic security.
The system operates over three phases: Phase 1 enables direct BTC locking; Phase 2 launches Babylon Genesis (a Cosmos-SDK chain) as the first BSN serving as a control plane and relay; Phase 3 expands multi-staking, enabling staked BTC to secure multiple networks.
Babylon uses Bitcoin native scripts alongside covenant-based security and Extractable One-Time Signatures (EOTS) to enable trustless staking with fast unbonding and configurable slashing. This allows stakers to maintain full custody of their BTC while earning yield from multiple PoS networks.
The modular architecture enables any PoS chain to integrate Babylon’s security model as a BSN, tapping into Bitcoin’s unmatched decentralization via the shared-security model—introducing censorship resistance, liquidity access, and stronger economic guarantees across Web3 ecosystems
